Welcome!

Thanks for joining us at Dixie Care and Share. We are a passionate organization of souls looking for solutions to the problems that many of us have with life today. As a 501(c)(3) charity, we are tasked with helping those who need food for themselves or their families, those who need an occasional shelter over their heads, and those who need a helping hand of another kind. Many people are in this position due to life coming at them a bit fast or a bit cruelly. Please browse our web site and see how you can perhaps “pay forward” for that next time you may find yourself without a quarter in your pocket or an umbrella in the rain!

To Dixie Care and Share:

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to each and every one of you.  You have taken a bad part of my life and turned it into joyful memories.  Because of Dixie Care and Share, I was able to get an apartment and furnish it.  I have gone from homeless to renting my own apartment. Your staff is just amazing with the professional, kind and courteous way you all helped me.  You really lived up to your name, Care and Share. I thank every one of you.

Sincerely

Thomas N.

Dixie Care and Share Thanks Public for Support

Over $60,000 raised in past two weeks, search for new director underway.

ST. GEORGE - June 3, 2010 -Dixie Care and Share today announced the recently reported budget shortfall of $100,000 for the fiscal year 2010 has been improved by over $60,000.  Donations from the public as well as grant commitments have helped reduce the projected shortfall, but more needs to be raised.  “We are grateful for the outpouring of support from the friends of Dixie Care and Share,” said Chairman, Adam Dunn. “Without local contributions, we would be forced to turn away many of our neighbors in need.”  Donations are being accepted at the Care and Share St. George office at 131 North 300 West, and online at http://dixiecareandshare.org.

Record Demand for Food, Homeless Prevention Services

The economic downturn has added to the demands for Dixie Care and Share food and services.  Compared to last year, over fifty percent more food has been provided from its pantries in St. George and Hurricane.  Dixie Care and Share not only collects and distributes canned and fresh food for local families, but also operates a homeless shelter with over 50 beds.  Additionally, Dixie Care and Share works with local churches and charities like the Salvation Army to provide meals, job training, bus vouchers, showers and other services to both homeless and low-income populations.

While Dixie Care and Share relies on some government and corporate grants to conduct its work, private monetary donations are critical.  Interim Executive Director Robert Schaefer observed, “Many of the names we used to see on our list of donors are now showing up on our list of clients.”  Additional funds and new donors must be found to meet the increased demand for food and services.

Director Search Underway

“This is a challenging time for many in the area, so we must make the best use of every resource and talent available,” stated Dunn.   While a search is being conducted for a new Director to head the organization, long-time Care and Share operations manager Robert Schaefer is filling the role of interim Director.  As part of his role, Schaefer is coordinating with government and corporate grant agencies to ensure the organization is receiving all the funds it is eligible for.  More information about the Director search is available at dixiecareandshare.org.

Audit and Reviews Underway

As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Dixie Care and Share financial records are reviewed annually by an outside auditing firm.  An audit of last year’s records will soon be performed.  The board of trustees is also conducting a thorough review of all operations, policies and procedures.  The reviews will help the board make improvements to ensure Dixie Care and Share can meet the community needs for many years to come.

“We are looking forward now, and we’re optimistic.  With support like we’ve seen recently, we will be able to continue providing much-needed benefits for our community,” stated Dunn. “Our goal is to become an organization that will not only meet the needs of our local community, but also serve as a model of success for other pantries and shelters across the country.”
