Chili & Scarecrows on Oct 24

You heard it here first!

This years wonderful Chili Festival, the 4th annual, will also be host to the first annual Scarecrow Festival.  The Chili Festival is one of our main fund raisers and gives so much to Dixie Care and Share through the community participation in this one day event.  There is a lot to be excited about!

Chili Festival

This year’s festival will be on October 24th ad will feature the chili champs and perhaps a couple of new restaurants.  Already, we have had confirmation from the Gun Barrel, Chili’s, XetAVA, the Texas Road House, the Red Robin, and the Cosmopolitan.   Each restaurant is asked to bring with them 15 gallons of chili and a server who shares the restaurant’s personality.  We will have chili until this is gone; tasting tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.  In addition to the great chili, we will

have desserts served by New Promise Lutheran Church and Dessert Springs Church as we did last year.  There will be a few hot dogs and drinks furnished by the folk at Dixie Care and Share for those who don’t do chili.

Our sponsors this year are Cherry Creek Radio, The Spectrum, KCSG, Rainbow Sign & Banner, Classic Building Services, Soltis, EmployEase, Ace Hardware, The Home Depot, Southern Utah Tree Service, SMCC The Springs Church, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and many other contributors.

Scarecrow Event

We are looking for a few good scarecrows for our first annual Scarecrow competition and silent auction to benefit Dixie Care and Share!  Individuals, civic groups, and even churches are welcome to enter the contest for the best Scarecrows.  The scarecrows will be judged before the chili cooking begins, so when you get there you will know who won First, Second, Third and Best of Show.  And, you will have an opportunity to participate in the silent auction and bid on one of these delightful creatures to display at your home or business.  Attached to this is a link to the entry form if you feel like playing this fun game.

To enter the contest, you will have to send in an entry fee of $20 with your entry application.  When your application is approved, you will be given a pass to pick up a bucket with cement and a post in it on which to form your scarecrow.  There are also a list of dos and don’ts available to help you stay within the appropriate square for the contest.  This contest will be judged before the cookoff begins ribbons will be announced.  Then, during the chili event, the scarecrows will be sold to the public at a silent auction.

If you are interested, click on the link to the form, fill it out and get it to the “Scarecrow Lady”.
