“…Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. ” — Luke 10:35
There are many people in the world who do not have enough food. During 2006, Dixie Care and Share provided almost 7000 families with food boxes, all donated by members of the community. And this number is increasing. In June, 2007, the shelter gave food boxes to 2148 people, feeding 8716 people!! The facility also provided shelter for one thousand nights of stay for those who could not afford a home, even during this warm period when many prefer being outside to the confines of a shelter. Those in the shelter consumed almost 3000 cooked meals at Dixie Care and Share during their stay. Dixie Care and Share also provided three families with transitional housing, helping them to put their lives back in order.
There are many ways to donate to Dixie Care and Share, through service, goods, or funds. Several organizations throughout Washington County give their time and talents collecting canned goods; for example the Postal Workers and the Boy Scouts, each have canned goods drives in the spring. Opening your pantry to these events may mean the difference between having or not having a meal for some child in our community.
Donating your dollars can aid in making available the utilities and the basics of a shelter for those who have no other option to stay out of the weather. Donating your bars of soap and shampoo can give a fellow a clean outlook for a chance to go to a job interview.
